East River defeated Lake Howell 4-2 to claim the fall season
Championship. East River got it started in the first when CF Juan
Aponte drew a 1 out walk, stole second, and scored on an RBI double by
second baseman Edwin Suarez.
East River added to its lead in the second starting with a walk by
extra hitter Brandon Perez. An errant pickoff attempt and subsequent
overthrow led to Perez scoring quickly. First baseman Aaron Gonzalez
and DH Brady Johnson-Schmeltzer then walked and advanced on a wild
pitch, bringing up left fielder Will Jimenez. Jimenez singled to left
scoring Gonzalez but Johnson-Schmeltzer was cut down at the plate.
Jimenez alertly went to third on the play and scored on an RBI single
by SS Miguel Castro to make the score 4-1.
Lake Howell got on the board in the 3rd when EH Dillon Hoyle worked a
leadoff walk and moved to third on a single by 2B Trent Masih. Hoyle
scored on a double steal beating the throw home. Lake Howell's second
run came in the 5th on a leadoff double by 1B Luke Schanback and a SAC
fly by Hoyle.
Lake Howell was led by 2B Trent Masih who went 3 for 3 with 3 singles
and 3 stolen bases. Pitchers Ivan Borbon and Luke Schanback each worked
2 scoreless innings of relief.
For East River, Castro singled twice and pitcher Michael Thomasson
worked 5 effective innings in the win giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.
Reliever Gabe Rivas closed it out with 2 scoreless innings allowing
just a lone single to Masih.
